Derek Wayne Johnson is an actor, director, writer, producer, and editor. Showing signs of early ambition and talent, Derek began acting and filmmaking at an early age. While a senior film student at Stephen F. Austin State University, Derek began working in the film industry. After earning his degree he started a film production company and has been working in Hollywood films and independent films both in front of and behind the camera.

1. Related to Sherrie Swafford, famously known for the song written about her, "Oh Sherrie", by former Journey front man Steve Perry in 1984.

2. In 2007 he formed a production company, AJ16 Entertainment, in honor of his late brother Adam. AJ for his initials and 16 for his favorite sports number.

3. Has a scar above his right brow from his little brother throwing a turtle at him when he was 10 years old, splitting his head open. Also has a scar on his right leg from being hit with a crowbar from the same little brother. Both were accidents.

4. Wrote, directed, edited, and starred in his first feature film, "Within Us", while a senior film student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

5. Began acting and filmmaking in high school winning consecutive 1st place and Best of Fair honors in the state of Texas for short films.

10. Likes to name characters in his scripts after family, friends, and heroes. For example, the name "Stanley" in "Stanley DeBrock" is inspired by the great film director Stanley Kubrick.

11. Wrote the first draft of "Stanley DeBrock" in three weeks, later bringing Richmond Arquette (who plays "Peebo" in the film) on as a co-writer for several more drafts.

12. All time hero is Bruce Lee.

13. Favorite bands are Green Day, The Clash, The Cure, Ramones, Prince and The Revolution, and The Replacements. He is also a big fan of Sam Cooke.
